Dear Parents/Carers,
We’re excited to let you know that on Monday 29th September we will be holding our next Jump In Day, the way we launch our whole-school inquiries each term.
Jump In Days are a chance for children to immerse themselves in their new learning in a fun, exciting, and memorable way. They always create a real buzz across the school and spark genuine enthusiasm for the term ahead.
This term our inquiry theme is Power and Conflict – What happens when people fight for power? Each class will explore this through a different historical lens:
Nursery, Reception & Year 1 – Pirate Perils!
Why were pirates so scary?
β‘οΈ Please dress as a pirate. Children will be building pirate boats.
Year 2 & Year 3 – Celtic-Roman Clash!
How did the Romans change life in Wales?
β‘οΈ Please dress as Celts. Children will be making shields and den building.
Year 4 & Year 5 – Castle Chronicles!
Why were castles built, and how did they change Wales?
β‘οΈ Please dress as kings, queens, knights, jesters etc.
β‘οΈ Bring a picture or artefact linked to castles.
β‘οΈ Please also bring one piece of fruit so we can share a banquet at the end of the day.
Year 6 – Wales at War!
How did war change life for people?
β‘οΈ Please dress as an evacuee (shorts, shirts, dresses, jumpers, long socks, name tags, gas mask box).
β‘οΈ Pack a small bag with five “important things” (e.g. favourite book, teddy, family photo) – be ready to explain why you’ve chosen them.
For our younger pupils, we’d also be very grateful for any of the following items you may have at home:
String
Corks/corkscrews
Egg boxes
Foil
Plastic or chocolate gold coins
Plastic jewels or beads
Buttons
Thank you as always for your support – we can’t wait for another exciting Jump In Day to kick off our new inquiries!
Best wishes,
James Griffiths
Headteacher
Next week, we turn our thoughts to the importance of Harvest in our community.
We are asking families to donate items for the Vale of Glamorgan Foodbank, such as:
Cereal, pasta, rice, soup, tinned fruit/veg/meat, lentils, pulses
Biscuits, tea, coffee, UHT milk, fruit juice
Toiletries and hygiene products
More information can be found at: Vale Foodbank | Helping Local People in Crisis
This week, Mrs Thomas from the Foodbank led a special assembly, helping pupils understand why donations are so important. She will also join us at our Harvest Festival to collect the gifts, which will be delivered to Llantwit Major Foodbank. Our School Council will visit the Foodbank afterwards to help sort and organise donations.
ποΈ Extra tickets for the Harvest Festival are now available!
Following the service, our PTA is hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning – all are warmly welcome.
In a moment of bravery (or madness!), Hannah ( mum of Arthur and Felix) has accepted a last-minute place in the Cardiff Half Marathon – with just three weeks to train!
Hannah is running to raise money for the Elizabeth Madge Education Charitable Trust. Many of our families will remember that Elizabeth Madge was an inspirational teacher here at Llangan Primary School during the 1990s. Her family set up this trust in her memory to support children’s education and wellbeing – a cause that is very close to our hearts.
If you would like to support Hannah and this wonderful charity, please visit her sponsorship page here:
