Dosbarth Llwynog Class Blog – Week Overview 14.2.25

Hello from Dosbarth Llwynog! What a week we've had filled with exciting learning and creative activities. Here's a look at what we've been up to:
Literacy: Writing Balanced Arguments on Renewable Energy
This week, our literacy lessons focused on writing balanced arguments, and we chose an important topic to debate: renewable energy. We researched the benefits of renewable sources, like wind and solar power, and also explored the challenges, such as cost and reliability. Each of us took time to think critically and present both sides of the argument. By the end of the week, we were confident in our ability to weigh up different viewpoints and write persuasive, well-supported arguments.
Maths: Line Graphs and Fractions
In maths, we were busy learning about line graphs and fractions. We practised plotting points and interpreting data on line graphs, which helped us understand how information changes over time. Fractions also featured heavily in our lessons, as we learnt how to add, subtract, and compare fractions with different denominators. We used these skills to create our own line graphs later in the week, applying both maths topics to real-world data.
Inquiry: Graphing Carbon Emissions and Global Temperature
Our inquiry lessons were incredibly engaging! We used the maths skills we’d developed to create line graphs showing global carbon emissions and temperature rises. We learnt that over the past century, carbon emissions have increased significantly, which has contributed to rising global temperatures. These graphs helped us better understand the link between carbon emissions and climate change. We also discussed possible solutions to these problems in class.
Art: Exploring the Work of Jill Pelto
In art, we studied the beautiful work of Jill Pelto, an artist who uses her paintings to raise awareness of climate change. Pelto creates stunning watercolour paintings of glaciers, oceans, and wildlife, illustrating how they are affected by climate change. Inspired by her style, we created our own pieces of art to express the impact of climate change on our planet. We’re really proud of the work we created, and we hope to share it with you soon!
Science: Non-Chronological Reports
In science, we began working on non-chronological reports about some of the most important environmental issues facing our planet today. We chose topics like plastics in the ocean, weather patterns, natural disasters, and loss of animal habitats due to climate change. We researched our topics, gathered facts, and started drafting reports that we will continue to work on in the coming weeks. It’s important to us to learn about these issues so we can make a positive difference in the world.
Looking Ahead
We’ve had an incredible week in Dosbarth Llwynog! From writing balanced arguments to creating art inspired by climate change, we’ve explored some important and thought-provoking topics. We’re excited to continue learning and growing in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as we keep tackling these challenges and discovering new ways to help protect our planet!
Until next time, Dosbarth Llwynog
