31/1/25 - Making Waves with Stories, Maths & Coastal Adventures!

Year 1/2 Weekly Blog: Storytelling, Multiplication & Coastal Habitats!
It’s been another fantastic week in Year 1/2, filled with creativity, new skills, and important lessons. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Literacy – Story Innovation & Imaginative Writing
This week, we focused on boxing up our story structure and innovating with new characters and problems. The children came up with some incredibly imaginative stories, using exciting vocabulary and alliteration. Some standout titles included Leila and the Lion, Freddie and the Fish, and Felicity and the Fox. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence in storytelling grow!
Numeracy – Multiplication Mastery
In Numeracy, we explored multiplication, learning different strategies to help us understand repeated addition and grouping. The children worked hard to apply their knowledge and showed great resilience when tackling new challenges.
Inquiry – Coastal Habitats
Our Inquiry learning took us to the coast this week, as we explored coastal habitats. The children learned about the different animals and plants that live by the sea and how they have adapted to survive in their environment. Their enthusiasm for learning about marine life was fantastic!
Special Visit – Bullies Out
A highlight of our week was a visit from Bullies Out, who delivered an important session about kindness, respect, and standing up for others. The children engaged brilliantly in discussions and took away valuable lessons about how to create a positive and supportive environment for everyone.
Highlight of the Week!
One of the best moments this week was seeing the children’s creativity shine in their story writing. Their use of alliteration and exciting characters made for some brilliant storytelling moments!
Exciting News – Our Porthcawl Trip!
We are looking forward to our upcoming trip to Porthcawl on the 10th of February, where we will explore rockpools as part of our learning on coastal habitats. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see marine life up close and apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting.
We’re excited for another great week ahead—stay tuned for more updates!
