Arctic Explorers ❄️
This week in Dosbarth Pili-Pala, our enhanced challenges focused on the Arctic. In the writing area, we wrote postcards to Mr. Griffiths, sharing information about the Arctic habitat and its animals. In the fine motor area, we practiced writing our names and CVC words in the 'snow'. In the construction area, we were tasked with building an igloo, applying our mathematical skills by measuring our igloos with a meter ruler. In the maths area, we used rods to catch number fish, identifying the numbers and determining one more and one less, extending this up to 5 more and 5 less.
In our inquiry lessons, we continued to complete our fact files, recording information we had learnt about sea creatures. We also discussed the different animals that live in the Arctic and sorted them into Arctic and non-Arctic habitats. In literacy, we began to look at leaflets on how to care for animals, examining features like headings, subheadings, persuasive language, and images.
In maths, we began to learn about odd and even numbers. We used the story of Noah's Ark to understand that animals that have a pair that go onto the Ark are even numbers. If an animal doesn’t have a pair, it gets left behind (odd numbers).
Next week, we will be moving to a warmer climate - the Savanna 🦁🦒🐘
