Week Beginning 2nd December 2024
Once Upon a Time in Dosbarth Pili-Pala
We have now reached the end of our 'Once Upon a Time' inquiry and are officially authors and illustrators having finished our own traditional tale stories! These stories have taken weeks of preparation, where we have explored the timeless concepts of traditional tales and reimagined them with our own modern twists.
Our journey began with choosing a main character for our stories, where we learnt to use adjectives to describe them and decided on the setting for our tale. Next, we planned the plot, thinking about where our main character would go, what events would unfold, which other characters to include, and how the story would end. To make our books truly personal, we added an 'About the Author' section, sharing fun facts about ourselves, such as our names, where we’re from, our favourite activities, and who we wrote our stories for. Building on our literacy ‘Get Writing’ sessions, we created story maps of our traditional tales, which helped us practice retelling them to our friends. Hearing their stories inspired us to write book reviews, where we shared what we loved about their tales, picked our favourite characters, suggested who might enjoy reading them, and offered ideas for improvement.
On Tuesday, we celebrated our ‘Jump Out Day,’ inviting parents and carers to see all of our hard work. We shared our inquiry books, read our stories together, decorated gingerbread men, and challenged family members to complete the COOL challenges around our classroom. We’ve worked incredibly hard throughout this inquiry, and it’s no surprise our teachers and parents are so proud of us! 🌟
