Friday 14th March: National Science Week at Llangan Primary School

What an incredible week it’s been! We kicked off our National Science Week Celebrations with a whole school assembly, focusing on the theme ‘Change and Adapt.’ Pupils impressed us all by sharing their understanding of what change and adaptation mean to them.

On Tuesday, the school buzzed with excitement as every teacher delivered a thrilling science investigation to each class. Our 'Meltdown Mayhem' experiment had pupils exploring heating, melting, and the properties of materials — from states of matter to understanding insulators and conductors. Pupils came up with innovative ideas on how to slow down melting ice caps and glaciers, linking science to real-world problems.

Class Highlights:

  • Dosbarth Pili Pala, our little eco-warriors learned that recycling isn’t just about reducing waste—it can help things grow too! After exploring different recyclable materials, the children upcycled old containers into beautiful flower pots. They decorated their pots, filled them with soil, and carefully planted flowers inside.

  • Dosbarth Tylluan Eira tackled a water source game, using their fantastic teamwork and problem-solving skills to complete the challenge.

  • Year 1/2 took on an important mission to spread awareness about protecting our oceans. After discussing how ocean waste harms marine life, they got creative, recycling plastic bottles to share the message: “Leave footprints, not rubbish.”

  • Year 3 turned trash into treasure, creating ocean-themed art from recycled materials like sweet wrappers, bottle caps, and plastic straws — proving that waste doesn’t have to be wasted!

  • Year 4 became eco-entrepreneurs, inspired by companies like Adidas and Parley. They designed products that transform waste into solutions, complete with business plans and catchy slogans. The creativity on display was phenomenal!

  • Year 5/6 participated in a British Science Week Adobe live lesson, creating videos showcasing incredible animal adaptations. Their entries are now part of the Adobe Express Film Festival — fingers crossed for some winners!

Outdoor Learning Adventures

Our outdoor learning projects also flourished this week:

  • Year 1/2 started developing their wildlife area in the garden, showing brilliant teamwork and cooperation.

  • Year 5/6 were busy bees — combining compost bin waste, trimming the bay trees, planting carrot seeds, crafting a wooden bird box, making colourful bunting, and even weaving willow hurdles for the bird hide. A huge well done to everyone involved!

It’s been fantastic to see our pupils immersed in hands-on, practical science. We can’t wait to see their new scientific vocabulary added to our lab coats! #DringynUchel #DringynUwch

Sports Update

Football Match: On Friday, our football team took on Llansannor. The team played brilliantly, showing great sportsmanship and teamwork — well done to all!

Non-Uniform Day Success

Our non-uniform day raised an amazing £413 to support Khani, a woman in Pakistan. A heartfelt thank you to everyone for your kindness and generosity.

Looking Ahead

Next week, Year 5 are heading off on their residential trip to Morfa Bay, Carmarthenshire, for a week of exciting outdoor activities. Residential trips are a fantastic way for pupils to build independence, resilience, and teamwork — and of course, create lifelong memories.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
