Friday 7th March

Dear, Llangan families!

What a fantastic and enriching week we’ve had at Llangan Primary School! With so many wonderful events, celebrations, and learning experiences, there’s plenty to share.

Eisteddfod Joy
Yesterday, Llangan Primary School was bursting with talent, creativity, and hwyl as we celebrated our annual Eisteddfod! Our pupils shone on stage with incredible performances—dances, songs, and plays—and impressed us all with their art, poetry, and baking. The sun might have been shining, but our children’s talents shone even brighter!

Our Eisteddfod was a spectacular celebration of Welsh culture and creativity. From poetry and story writing to art, model making, and music, the talent on display was truly inspiring. The Criw Cymraeg did a brilliant job organising the event and had the honour of judging the poems. I am delighted to announce that the winning poem was written under a fake name. The author of this exceptional piece will be crowned in a special chairing ceremony, a tradition deeply rooted in the Welsh Eisteddfod, celebrating literary achievement and the poetic heritage of Wales.

During the afternoon, we were thrilled to be joined by Tudur, who led each plaza in a Twmpath Dawns—a traditional Welsh folk dancing session. With the sun shining, we couldn’t resist taking our dance steps outside, filling the playground with music, laughter, and hwyl. The lively dances brought everyone together, from our youngest to oldest pupils, in a celebration of rhythm, culture, and joy. It was a wonderful way to embrace our Welsh heritage and create lasting memories of dancing together as a school community.

A huge ‘Diolch yn fawr’ to our amazing PTA, who organised a raffle and served refreshments to parents after the Eisteddfod. A special thank you to Mrs Evans, who made all the delicious Welsh cakes herself for the event. The support of our PTA and parents is truly valued and appreciated.

A massive diolch yn fawr to our incredible staff for their hard work and dedication in bringing this special event to life—from planning and teaching to judging competitions and even joining in the twmpath dawns. The sense of community and joy was truly inspiring.

Thank you to everyone who supported the event—families, friends, and our wider community. We couldn’t do it without you!

World Book Day Fun On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day by inviting pupils to wear their pyjamas to school—a perfect theme for curling up with a good book! Our wonderful PTA also treated the children to hot chocolate, adding a cosy touch to the day. It was fantastic to see everyone embracing the joy of reading.

Learning About Ramadan On Friday, Hasheena, a parent of pupils at our school, visited to talk to the children about Ramadan and how, as part of her Muslim faith, she and her family focus on being more conscious of others and helping those in need. Hasheena and her children have asked our Llangan community to support an elderly lady called Khani in Pakistan, where Hasheena’s family originates from. Khani has very little, and we would love to help make a difference.

We are organising a non-school uniform day on Friday, 14th March. If children would like to support this cause, they can make a donation via JustGiving, which we will share next week. The family will take gifts from the Llangan community to support Khani and will share photos and videos with the children, showing the impact of their kindness

National Science Week: Get Ready for Science Experience Day! Next week is National Science Week, and we are excited to inform you that next Tuesday, 11th March, will be our Science Experience Day at Llangan Primary School! This special day is designed to give the children an engaging and hands-on opportunity to explore exciting scientific concepts through fun, interactive activities. Some of the activities planned will be messy, so we kindly ask that your child comes to school dressed in old clothes that are suitable for participating in these experiments. We want all of our students to fully enjoy the experience without worrying about getting dirty! Please ensure that your child wears comfortable shoes, and if necessary, sends in an extra set of clothes for the day. We look forward to a fantastic day of learning and discovery, and we are sure the children will have a memorable time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.

Many thanks for all your continued support this week!

Have a wonerful weekend.

Mr Griffiths
