Another busy week at Llangan!

Beach Academy Trip

On Monday, pupils in Plaza 3 (Years 1, 2, and 3) enjoyed an educational visit to Rest Bay, Porthcawl, where they took part in a Beach Academy day. The children explored the beach environment, rock pooling to identify creatures living in the pools and learning about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. They discovered ways to care for the beach and our natural environment—a fantastic hands-on learning experience!

Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday, we marked Safer Internet Day, a national initiative promoting the safe use of the internet for young children. Pupils participated in lessons focused on online safety, and Mr. Howles (our Digital Lead), along with our Digital Champions Committee, led an assembly on how to stay safe online. Parents can find more information on our school website and the official Safer Internet Day website.

Maths Challenge Success
Also on Tuesday, four of our Year 6 Maths Champions took part in the Rural Vale Maths MAT Championship at St. Brides Primary School. This monthly competition promotes mathematical problem-solving and cognitive challenges. Pupils competed individually and as a team, tackling some gruelling maths problems—and we’re thrilled to say Llangan came second! Well done to our amazing mathematicians! 🏆

PTA Superhero Event
Thursday saw our PTA host a Superhero Event after school, with children enjoying games, crafts, films, and dancing, all themed around superheroes. A special guest—Spider-Man himself—even made an appearance, much to the children’s delight! This fun-filled event raised £288.48 for the PTA, which is currently fundraising for the Expressive Arts at Llangan. So far, the PTA has replaced our school stage and is now looking to upgrade our school piano—a huge thank you to everyone who contributed!

Looking Ahead to Next Week…

Young Performer Competition
Pupils in Years 2-6 who play an instrument, dance, or perform are invited to take part in our Young Performer Competition. The preliminary heat will take place on Friday 21st February, and Criw Cymraeg (alongside Mrs. Antoniou, our Welsh Coordinator) will select three finalists to perform at the Eisteddfod.

After the Eisteddfod performance, we will hold an awards ceremony, where prizes, certificates, and the Eisteddfod Trophy for the winning house will be presented.

Parent Forum & Governing Body Meeting
📅 Parent Forum – Thursday 20th February at 9:00 am
📅 Full Governing Body Meeting – Thursday 20th February at 5:30 pm

Doughnut Sale – Friday 21st February
To celebrate the end of this half-term, we’re hosting a special doughnut sale in school: “Doughnut Forget How Amazing You Are!” 🍩 Pupils can purchase a doughnut in advance via Parent Pay for £1. As a Healthy School, we don’t usually allow sugary treats, but this is a one-off fundraising initiative and a special reward for all the pupils' hard work this term. A huge thank you to the PTA for organising this fun event!

Half-Term Break & INSET Day Reminder

This is our final week before half-term. School will be closed on Monday, 3rd March for an INSET day, and we will return on Tuesday, 4th March. On this INSET day, all staff will take part in Thinking Skills training, led by Thinking Allowance, focusing on developing metacognitive strategies to enhance pupil learning.

Welcome to Our New Caretaker

In January, our long-standing caretaker, Mr. Huw Vaughan, left to take up a new role at Pencoed Primary. We are delighted to announce that Mr. Godwin has been appointed to the position and will join Team Llangan after half-term. We look forward to welcoming him!

Parent Booking System Update

We sincerely apologise for the recent technical issue with our parent booking system, which resulted in incorrect email notifications being sent out. This was due to a bug in the system, which our developers have now fully resolved. This issue should not occur again for future parent evenings. We understand the frustration this may have caused and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Wishing everyone a fantastic final week before the break!

Thank you for your continued support.
