Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this message finds you all well. Firstly, I’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Mr Howles for completing the Cardiff Half Marathon last weekend! Thank you to everyone who supported our non-school uniform day and sponsored him—your generosity is greatly appreciated.

School Open Day – Wednesday, 6th November
We’re excited to begin sharing details of our upcoming School Open Day. This is an important opportunity for us to welcome prospective new parents to visit Llangan Primary School on Wednesday, 6th November, with tours at 9:30 am and 5 pm. As some of you may know, our nursery and reception class numbers are currently lower than in previous years. This trend is partly due to a lower birth rate and an increase in primary school places in the local area.

The number of pupils we have directly affects our funding, which is crucial to ensuring the school's future. We would be extremely grateful if you could help us spread the word. If you’re part of local groups or know of any prospective parents, please share our flyer and help support our recruitment drive.

Wrap Around Childcare for Nursery Pupils
As part of our ongoing efforts to support our families, we are excited to advertise plans for a new wrap-around childcare provision for nursery pupils. Subject to approval from Care Inspectorate Wales, this provision would allow nursery pupils to stay at school from 11:10 am until 3:30 pm. We will be sharing more detailed information with nursery parents in the next week and will keep everyone updated as this provision develops.

PTA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
A reminder that our PTA AGM will be held on Monday, 14th October, at 7:30 pm in school. We welcome both existing and new PTA members and look forward to seeing you there. The PTA plays an essential role in supporting our school community, so your involvement is highly valued.

Upcoming Events and Activities
Next week is full of learning opportunities for our pupils:

  • Year 2 Kerb Craft Course: On Wednesday, our Year 2 children will participate in this road safety course run by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
  • Year 6 Cycling Road Safety: Our Year 6 pupils will be taking part in their cycling road safety course, both in school and around the local area.
  • Food Bank Donations: On Monday, our School Council will be delivering all the donations we’ve collected to the Llantwit Major Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who has contributed—your generosity is making a real difference to those in need.
  • Shwmae Day: on Wednesday the Criw Cymraeg is leading the school in celebrating Shwmae Day that promotes the use of Y Iaith Cymraeg (The Wlesh Language) by starting every conversation with Shwmae (Hi!)

Parents’ Evening – Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th October
Invitations have been sent out for our upcoming Parents’ Evening. These meetings provide a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress since the start of the academic year. We highly encourage parents and pupils to attend together, as involving children in conversations about their learning can be incredibly empowering. You’ll also have a chance to review your child’s workbooks ahead of your appointment.

Teachers will cover key areas during the meetings, including your child’s most recent assessment data, targets for the coming term, and an overall progress update. You will receive a target sheet to take home, outlining this information. Appointments are limited to 10 minutes, so we kindly ask that everyone follows the agenda provided. If you have any concerns beyond what’s discussed, please feel free to contact us at llanganps@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk or 01446 772403, and we will be happy to arrange a further meeting.

Our online booking system will be live from Thursday morning (10th October) and can be accessed via the school website and app. If you need help booking your slot, detailed instructions are available on the website.

Thank you all for your continued support. I look forward to seeing many of you at the events and meetings over the coming weeks.

Warm regards,
Mr. Griffiths
