Friday 4th October

Llangan Primary School Weekly Newsletter
From the Headteacher – Mr. Griffiths

We've had fun  packed exciting week in Llangan!

Reading Challenge
This Tuesday marked the end of our Reading Challenge, and the children who completed it were awarded certificates in our assembly. We were impressed with the hard work and enthusiasm so many children showed throughout September to improve their reading skills. Well done to all involved!

Urdd Football Tournament
On Tuesday, pupils in Year 5 and 6 participated in the Urdd Football competition in Leckwith, Cardiff. The team played brilliantly and had an amazing day, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork. We’re proud of their efforts and how they represented our school!

Apple Pressing Day

Thursday saw pupils in Years 4, 5, and 6 take part in an exciting apple-pressing workshop using apples from our school. Community volunteers led the session, teaching the children how to pick, wash, and press apples to make delicious apple juice. We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers for sharing their time and expertise with us. It was a wonderful experience for all!

Nursery and Reception School Trip

On Wednesday, our Nursery and Reception pupils visited Brocastle Manor care home. They sang songs, shared stories, and even brought homemade shortbread to share with the residents. This visit helped with our inquiry into life in the past and gave our pupils the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about history. Thank you to Hafod Care Home for welcoming us!

Important Car Park Information
To ensure everyone's safety, please take note of the following car park guidelines:

  • The speed limit in the car park is 5 miles per hour.
  • Please reverse into parking spaces to ensure a safer departure.
  • Do not park in the lane or verge leading to the car park, as this causes traffic queues and blocks the main road.
  • Children and visitors must walk along the path behind the chain fence.
  • Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult from the car to the gate in the morning and from the gate to the car after school.

School Senedd
On Friday, our Senedd committees met to finalise their action plans for the year. At Llangan, we believe in empowering our students to be active citizens who contribute to school life, the community, and the wider world. Through our Senedd, students in Years 2 to 6 participate in committees such as the School Council, Eco Owls, Digital Leaders, Health and Well-being Committee, and Y Criw Cymraeg. Each committee meets weekly to make decisions and plan ways to make a positive impact.

The Senedd meets once every half-term, and each committee’s minister shares their progress with the school.

UNCRC Article 3: Best interests of the child
When adults make decisions, they should think about how their choices affect children. All adults should do what is best for children.

Information for Parents
On Friday, children brought home three important letters:

  1. Information about their class.
  2. Key dates for major events in the school calendar.
  3. An overview of this term’s curriculum.

Some of this information was also shared at the 'Meet the Parents' event, but paper copies have been provided following requests.

Parent Forum
Next Thursday, we will hold our first Parent Forum meeting at 9 am in school. Thank you to the parents who have offered to attend. We currently have representatives from Years 1, 2, 3, and 5. We are still looking for representatives from Nursery, Reception, Year 4, and Year 6. If you are interested in joining, please let us know!

Have a lovely weekend!

Best regards,
James Griffiths
