Llangan Primary School End-of-Year Newsletter 2024
Dear Parents, Guardians, and the Wonderful Llangan Community,
As the school year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey we've shared from September 2023 to July 2024. This year has been a tapestry of growth, achievements, and cherished memories, all of which have contributed to the vibrant fabric of our beloved Llangan Primary School.
From the moment we stepped into the new academic year, our students have shown incredible enthusiasm and dedication. In September, we celebrated Roald Dahl Day with our pupils donning costumes of their favourite characters, transforming the school into a whimsical wonderland. The older students paired up with the younger ones to share stories, fostering a love for literature and community spirit.
At the end of September, we held our annual Harvest Festival, a time-honoured tradition that brings our community together in celebration and reflection. This year's festival was especially poignant as our students demonstrated their moral sense of duty by helping the Vale Flood Bank. Through their efforts, they not only learned the importance of community service but also contributed significantly to protecting our local environment. It was a heartwarming display of our school motto, 'Dyrchafu'n Uchel, Dyrchafu'n Uwch' – Climb High, Climb Higher!
October brought a deep dive into history for our Plaza Classes with an educational visit to the Caerleon Roman Museum. The children explored Roman artefacts, tried on armour, and engaged in hands-on workshops, bringing ancient history to life in the most engaging way.
The winter months were filled with creativity and collaboration. Our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils participated in the Cynefin project with the Arts Council of Wales, exploring the rich multicultural tapestry of our nation through art. The project culminated in a beautiful exhibition that showcased the students' artistic expressions and their understanding of cultural diversity.
Spring was a time of technological innovation and engineering prowess. Our Year 5 students excelled in the Primary Engineers Rail Programme, designing and building battery-powered rail models. Their hard work was recognised at a celebration event in Cardiff, where they proudly presented their projects and earned accolades for their ingenuity.
The warmer months saw our students thriving in outdoor and physical activities. Sports Day was a highlight, despite a weather-related postponement. The rescheduled event in June was a joyous occasion with spirited competitions and the PTA Family Funday, reinforcing our community bonds.
Our Year 6 students embarked on a memorable transition journey to Cowbridge Comprehensive School, preparing for their next educational chapter. Additionally, they participated in the school's Olympic Torch Relay, symbolically connecting with other schools and celebrating the values of the Olympic movement.
As the academic year approached its finale, our talented students from Years 3 to 6 dazzled us with a spectacular production of "Grease." The performances were a testament to their hard work, creativity, and the dedication of our staff, leaving audiences enchanted and proud.
Our outdoor learning initiatives continued to thrive, with various activities designed to engage students with nature and sustainability.
The Senedd Llangan, our school parliament, played a pivotal role in promoting student leadership and environmental consciousness.
Farewell to Our Year 6s
It is with a mixture of pride and sadness that we bid farewell to our Year 6 students. You have grown into remarkable young individuals, ready to embark on the next exciting chapter of your educational journey. Your contributions to the school, whether through leadership, friendship, or academic achievement, have left an indelible mark on Llangan Primary. As you move on to secondary school, carry with you the values and lessons learned here. Remember, you will always be a part of the Llangan family. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours and look forward to hearing about your continued successes.
As we bid farewell to this incredible year, I extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and, most importantly, our wonderful students. Each of you has contributed to making Llangan Primary School a place of joy, learning, and community.
May your summer be filled with adventure, relaxation, and cherished moments with loved ones. I look forward to welcoming you all back in September for another exciting year of learning and growth. Remember our school motto, 'Dyrchafu'n Uchel, Dyrchafu'n Uwch' – Climb High, Climb Higher!
Warm regards,
Mr. Griffiths
