Our annual Sports Day took place on Wednesday, and it was a day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and friendly competition. This year, we introduced a new format that ensured all children were actively involved throughout the event. The activities were spread across different areas of the school grounds, with running races on the track, jumping events in the garden, and throwing competitions on the playground.

I'm proud to announce that Gower House emerged victorious, accumulating an impressive 577 points. Snowdonia House came in a close second with 566 points, followed by Brecon House with 559 points. However, the real winners were all of our children, who demonstrated outstanding effort, sportsmanship, and embodied our school values of respect and friendship.

The day's excitement didn't end there. We also had a parents' race, which saw many mums, dads, and grandparents showcasing their athletic prowess. It was wonderful to see our entire school community coming together in the spirit of fun and friendly competition.

Following the Sports Day, our hardworking PTA organised the annual Family Fun Day. This event truly exemplified the strong sense of community we have at Llangan Primary School. Families enjoyed a variety of activities, including a BBQ, refreshments, a slip and slide, a football penalty shoot-out, and a House Colour Raffle. It was heartwarming to see people of all ages having a great time together.

I'd like to extend a huge thank you to all members of our school community who contributed to making this event such a success. A special mention goes to our incredible PTA for their tireless efforts in organising and running the event. Their hard work paid off, raising an impressive £1,634.46 for PTA funds. This money will go towards outdoor learning resources for our Gardening and Forest Schools programmes, further enhancing our children's educational experiences.

In other news, our Year 5 pupils enjoyed a special educational visit to a No Dig Farm in Llanmaes with Mrs Stevens. This trip was part of their outdoor learning curriculum, where they learned about sustainable gardening, composting, and farming. We're excited to apply these lessons to our own gardening activities at school.

We have been extremely lucky this week in Llangan, and especially in our class of year 1 and 2. We were really lucky to have a visit from Wales' Children's Poet Laurete Alex Wharton. This was arranged for us by Marilyn through our Arts Council of Wales project. The children got to listen and respond to Alex’s poetry and rapping. The children then had the opportunity to create their own poetry with inspiration from Alex. It was an amazing experience that we are extremely lucky to have had.

Our School Council also had an enlightening visit from the Vale Rights Ambassadors project. These secondary school pupils, trained in children's rights, delivered workshops to our children, helping them understand more about their rights and how our School Council can further promote them at Llangan.

Looking ahead to next week, our Year 6 pupils will be participating in Cycling Safety training both at school and in Timbers Green. Meanwhile, our Year 5 students will be completing their swimming lessons.
