Happy Retirement, Mrs Day! This week, we bid a fond farewell to Mrs Day, our Midday Supervisor, who has dedicated 14 years of service to Llangan School. Mrs Day is embarking on a well-deserved retirement, and we celebrated her commitment with a special assembly. Our Head Boy and Girl read a heartfelt poem in her honour, while pupils presented her with tokens of appreciation. Mrs Day, a cherished member of our school community, is a familiar face to many, having attended the school herself, along with her children. While we'll miss her presence in the lunch hall and playground, we eagerly anticipate her return for school events and her volunteer work, including listening to readers. Thank you, Mrs Day, for your invaluable contributions to our school. We wish you a joyful retirement.

Educational Visit to Parliament: Members of our Eco Owls Committee and School Council had an enriching experience this week with a visit to the Houses of Parliament.

Invited as part of the UK Parliament's education programme for school councils, the children gained insights into citizenship and the democratic process of our country.

Starting with a walking tour of London's landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, the highlight of the trip was the tour of the Palace of Westminster. The children observed debates in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, learning about the role of MPs and the legislative process.

They also had the privilege of meeting colleagues of our local MP, Alun Cairns. Additionally, they participated in workshops at the Education Centre, engaging in discussions about politics, regional representation, and forming a government, culminating in a parliamentary debate of their own.

Upcoming Event: Scholastic Book Fair We're excited to announce our Scholastic Book Fair, taking place in the school hall on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th May. With a wide range of titles catering to every reading age and interest, the fair promises something for everyone. Parents are invited to accompany their children to browse and purchase books between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Please note that the fair is cashless, so be sure to bring a mobile device for payment. Every purchase made not only benefits your child's reading journey but also contributes to our school, helping us earn up to 20% of sales to invest in new books.

Deputy Headteacher Interviews Next week, our Board of Governors' selection committee will be conducting interviews for the role of Deputy Headteacher. Pupils will play an active role in the process, with representatives from the School Council posing questions they've prepared. We look forward to welcoming the successful candidate to our school leadership team.

Attendance and Punctuality Reminder Ensuring regular attendance and punctuality is vital for your child's academic progress. We recently sent reminders to parents regarding attendance, with specific attention to those below 90%. Prompt arrival is equally important, as lateness can result in missed learning opportunities. Please note the following impact of attendance and punctuality on lesson attendance:

• 95% attendance = 50 missed lessons (approximately 10 days)
• 90% attendance = 100 missed lessons (approximately 4 weeks)
• 85% attendance = 150 missed lessons (approximately 6 weeks)
• 80% attendance = 200 missed lessons (over 7 weeks)
• 75% attendance = 250 missed lessons (approximately 9 weeks)

Additionally, arriving late every day compounds the issue, with even small delays accumulating significant missed time.

Celebrating Ramadan and Eid Last Friday, Mrs Haseena Meunier visited our school to educate the children about Ramadan and Eid . Through engaging activities and insightful discussions, she shared the significance of fasting and the joyous traditions of communal gatherings during Eid. Mrs Meunier's session, which included a lively dance performance, was both educational and enriching.

We extend our sincere thanks to her for her generosity, including sharing sweets and desserts with the children. Eid Mubarak to all celebrating this festive occasion.
