Also this week, our Year 4 pupils embarking on their first ever residential trip. Accompanied by Mrs Jarman-Davies, Miss Davies, and myself, the children had the opportunity to stay overnight at the Urdd Centre in Cardiff Bay. They were joined by children from Llansannor Primary School, making it a truly memorable experience for all involved.

Residential trips are incredibly valuable for children, as they allow them to develop essential independence skills, build confidence and resilience, and foster cooperation and problem-solving abilities. The Urdd Centre, being a National Voluntary Youth Organisation with a rich history dating back to 1922, provided our children with a fantastic platform to make positive contributions to their communities.

During their stay, the children participated in a range of exciting activities. They kicked off their adventure with a high ropes course and zip line at the International White Water Rafting Centre, followed by ice skating and a walk across Cardiff Bay's Barrage. In the evening, they enjoyed a fun-filled session of Ten Pin Bowling at The Dragon Centre. After a restful night at the residential centre, the children embarked on a boat trip around the Bay and up the river Taff to Bute Park. They then had the incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes at BBC Wales, where they learnt about broadcasting and how the BBC produces news, weather, TV shows, films, and radio productions.

As it was Children in Need week, our visit to the BBC was even more special. We were interviewed by Ian H Watkins (formerly of STEPS) for the Wynne Evans' radio show on Radio Wales, where we shared with the nation how Llangan was raising money for and celebrating this important cause. The children were shown the News Studio, met news presenter Clare Summers, and even witnessed a live broadcast of Radio Wales. One of our pupils, Mollie, was interviewed live on air by Wynne Evans himself, proudly sharing how our school community was supporting Children in Need. The children also had the opportunity to try their hand at broadcasting, reading the news, weather, and commentating on sports live on camera. They also visited the BBC Wales Sports Studio and a radio recording studio, furthering their understanding of the broadcasting industry.

After our visit to the BBC, we ventured to the Principality Stadium, our National Stadium. The children explored the royal box, the changing rooms, and even had the chance to step foot on the pitch. They learnt about the stadium's history, construction, and its significance in Welsh rugby. The children also had the unique opportunity to host their very own press conference, role-playing as famous rugby players.

To conclude our residential trip, the children visited Wales' National Museum in Cathays Park. They delved into the fascinating history of Wales, from the Big Bang to the formation of our nation's geographical features. It was a truly enriching experience for our young learners. On the residential, the children were fantastic and made the whole school community proud.

Back in school, the rest of the children celebrated Children in Need by wearing pyjamas or dotty clothes, and making a contribution to the charity. Our School Council organised a series of events, including the sale of Pudsey wristbands, a Bearpee Challenge, and a Just Dance Off danceathon. I am proud to announce that these efforts raised an impressive £163.70 for Children in Need.

Looking ahead, we have an exciting week planned. We will continue our exploration of the democratic processes in Wales with a visit from a local Senedd Member, Andrew RT Davies. Additionally, the PTA is organising the Great Llangan Bake Off, where our children will put their baking skills to the test. Members of the Penllyn WI will judge the bakes, and the PTA will hold a Bake Sale in the dinner hall after school. Furthermore, we have a Parent Forum meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 23rd at 9 am, followed by a Full Governing Body Meeting.
