A Message from the Headteacher:
Collaboration, and Community at Llangan Primary
As we move through another exciting term at Llangan Primary, I want to take a moment to reflect on the fantastic achievements and joyful moments that have been shaping our school community. The enthusiasm and dedication of our pupils, staff, and families continue to inspire me, and I’m delighted to share some of the highlights with you.
One of the biggest celebrations this week was our incredible choir concert, where our school choir performed alongside the talented pupils from Llansannor and Llanharri CIW Primary Schools. What a night it was! The sound of children singing together, the teamwork, and the sheer joy on their faces made the evening unforgettable. Events like these showcase the power of music to unite and inspire, and I couldn’t be prouder of our Llangan singers for their dedication and hard work. We are already looking forward to next year’s performance!
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at Llangan Primary, and our Plaza Learning approach continues to provide meaningful learning opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. This term, we have seen children flourish not just in their academic studies but also through outdoor learning experiences, such as gardening, environmental projects, and hands-on science investigations. These activities have helped to develop confidence, independence, and a deepened connection with the world around them.
Of course, none of this would be possible without our amazing staff – Team Llangan. Their passion and commitment to providing the best possible education for our pupils is evident in everything they do. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to them for their hard work in making Llangan Primary such a fantastic place to learn and grow.
This week, our pupils took part in engaging and thought-provoking workshops led by BulliesOut, a fantastic charity dedicated to raising awareness about bullying and promoting kindness and respect. Through interactive activities and meaningful discussions, the sessions encouraged our children to reflect on the importance of empathy, inclusion, and standing up for others. Pupils explored real-life scenarios, learning strategies to recognise and respond to bullying in a safe and supportive way. The workshops reinforced our school’s commitment to creating a positive and respectful learning environment where every child feels valued and empowered. A huge thank you to BulliesOut for delivering such an impactful experience for our learners!
Exciting Updates & Important Reminders
🔵 Llangan Childcare Opens on Monday!
We are thrilled to be launching our new wraparound nursery provision, allowing nursery children to stay in school from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. This new service provides continuity for our youngest learners, helping them settle into the school environment and benefit from a full day of engaging activities.
📅 Parents' Evening – Tuesday & Thursday Next Week
Thank you to the 90% of parents who have already booked their appointments for next week’s Parents’ Evening. These meetings are an invaluable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and well-being with their teacher. If you haven’t yet booked, please do so as soon as possible to ensure you can attend. We look forward to seeing you!
⏰ Punctuality Matters – A Polite Reminder
School starts at 8:55 am, and classroom doors open from 8:45 am (unless your child is attending Breakfast Club). Recently, we have noticed a growing number of children arriving later and later. This is a concern, as our first lesson (Maths) begins promptly at 9:00 am.
Arriving late not only disrupts the start of your child’s learning but also affects the rest of the class and delays teachers in completing registers. Additionally, staff supervising the school gates are being held back due to late arrivals, impacting the start of lessons.
From Monday, staff will close the gates at 8:55 am. If you arrive later than this, you will need to bring your child to the school office . Please do not drop children off in the car park unattended.
To put it into perspective, arriving 10 minutes late each day adds up to 50 minutes per week, which equates to over 30 hours of lost learning time per year – the equivalent to more than a week of school! Let’s work together to ensure all pupils get the best possible start to their day.
📢 Communication with School
We always have a member of staff on both the top gate and bottom gate at drop-off and pick-up times. However, if you need to report an absence, illness, or pass on a message for your child’s teacher, please email the school office directly at Llanganps@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.
🍽 School Dinners – Baguettes & Jacket Potatoes
If your child would like a baguette or jacket potato for lunch, please ensure this is pre-ordered. These options are prepared in advance by Cerri, our school catering manager, and cannot be chosen on the day.
Thank You for Your Support
As always, thank you for your continued support. It is a privilege to lead such a vibrant and welcoming school community, and I look forward to the many exciting opportunities ahead. Let’s keep celebrating our pupils' achievements—both big and small—and continue working together to make this a fantastic year for Llangan Primary!
Best regards,
James Griffiths
