10.1.2024- Beginning our inquiry- How to save the seas?

Year 1/2 Weekly Blog

What a fantastic start to the new year we’ve had in Year 1/2! We’re thrilled to welcome Mr Ellis as our new teacher, and the children have settled in brilliantly under his guidance.

This week, we’ve dived straight into our new inquiry topic, Oceans and Seas, inspired by our exciting Jump In Day on Tuesday. The big question we’re exploring is: How can we save our seas? Like the rest of the school, we’re focusing on sustainability this term. To kick off our learning, the whole school read Love Our Earth, which sparked some thoughtful discussions and ideas.

In Year 1/2, we’ve also enjoyed reading the delightful story The Boy Who Unplugged the Sea. This inspiring tale taught us about responsibility and the power of small actions to make a big difference. The children wrote their own imaginative adventure stories, full of creativity and heart!

In maths, we’ve been working hard on repeated addition and have started learning our times tables. The children are beginning to recognise patterns in numbers, setting a strong foundation for their multiplication skills.

During our inquiry lessons, we’ve been exploring why our oceans are so important. The children were fascinated to learn about the role oceans play in supporting life on Earth and keeping our planet healthy.

In Welsh, we’ve been busy learning and labelling the parts of the body – the children have done a brilliant job using their new vocabulary!

In computing, we’ve started developing our digital skills by learning how to create Google Slides. The children are enjoying experimenting with layouts and designing their own presentations.

It’s been a packed and exciting week, and we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next. Da iawn, Year 1/2 – keep up the amazing work! 🌊💙
