w/e 10.1.25 Happy New Year

Welcome to the Dosbarth Llwynog Weekly Blog!
It’s been another action-packed week in Dosbarth Llwynog! From poetry and maths to our digital habits and climate change inquiry, the pupils have been busy developing their skills and exploring exciting new topics. Here’s a look at the wonderful learning we’ve been doing this week.
Literacy: Exploring the Magic of Poetry
In Literacy, Dosbarth Llwynog embarked on an exciting journey into the world of poetry. This week, we explored the features of poetry, focusing on rhythm, rhyme, imagery, and line breaks. The pupils had the chance to write their own free verse poems, experimenting with language to express their feelings and ideas creatively.
A special highlight was our focus on personification—giving human qualities to non-human things. The class wrote some beautiful examples.
Maths: Equations and Division Mastery
This week in Maths, we delved into equations and division. The class worked on solving simple equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They also reinforced their division skills by using related facts to quickly and accurately solve problems. For example, understanding how knowing 36 ÷ 6 can help solve 360 ÷ 6.
The pupils worked hard to develop their mental math strategies and demonstrated excellent teamwork as they solved problems together. It’s been great to see their confidence grow, and they are now able to approach division problems with a clearer understanding.
French: Parts of the Face and Body
In French, we’ve been learning how to name the parts of the face and body. From les yeux (eyes) to les pieds (feet), the pupils have been working hard to learn and remember the French vocabulary.
Digital: Healthy Online Habits
In our Digital lesson this week, Dosbarth Llwynog focused on understanding screen time and how it affects our well-being. The pupils logged how many hours of screen time they have weekly, what they use screens for, and discussed how to maintain healthy online habits.
Some of the key points we explored included:
- Setting time limits on screen use
- Taking regular breaks from screens to rest our eyes
- Using screens for learning and creative activities (such as drawing or making videos)
- Balancing screen time with other important activities like reading, exercise, and spending time with family.
This conversation helped the students reflect on their own screen time habits, and many have made new commitments to ensure a more balanced approach to technology in the coming weeks.
Enquiry: How Can We Stop Climate Change?
In our Enquiry lessons, we began exploring our big question: “How can we stop climate change?” This week, we kicked off the unit with a whole-school creative challenge, where Dosbarth Llwynog joined forces with other classes to paint canvases using acrylic paints.
Next week, we’ll dive deeper into our enquiry, exploring deforestation and the impact this has on our world.
