Friday 13 September
As we move further into the term, our school continues to buzz with activity and excitement. This week has been particularly eventful, filled with opportunities for our pupils to grow, learn, and engage with our community.
On Monday, we witnessed the democratic process in action as our Year 6 pupils stepped forward to vie for the prestigious roles of Head Boy and Girl. These positions, steeped in Llangan tradition, carry significant responsibilities. Our Head Boy and Girl serve as First Ministers of the School Senedd, uniting our pupil voice committees. They also represent our school at special events, welcome guests, and speak at concerts. The candidates presented their manifesto speeches to the entire school, followed by a school-wide vote. This process not only mirrors our national democratic system but also empowers our pupils to shape the future of our school.
Thursday brought representatives from the charity Bullies Out to our school. They led an informative assembly on types of bullying and introduced the 'Hand Of Courage' strategy, equipping our children with tools to combat bullying. Years 1, 2, and 3 participated in workshops on this topic, while Years 4, 5, and 6 focused on online safety and cyberbullying prevention. Our school website offers additional resources for parents on digital safety, and our Digital Champions will continue to share important messages throughout the year.
Friday saw our school transformed into a world of pure imagination as we celebrated Roald Dahl Day. Our pupils arrived dressed as their favourite characters from his beloved books. Born not far from our school in Llandaff, Cardiff, Dahl's contribution to children's literature is immeasurable. The day was filled with book buddying sessions, where older and younger pupils shared stories, fostering a love for reading. Our new Head Boy and Girl had the pleasure of selecting the best-dressed pupils from each class for prizes.
Looking ahead, our after-school clubs are set to begin next week. While we've had to cancel the after-school choir due to low interest, we're excited to form an in-school choir. This group will have the incredible opportunity to perform at the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena in London on 21st January, alongside 9,000 other young voices. This opportunity is open to Years 4, 5, and 6, and we encourage interested pupils to discuss this commitment with their parents.
This Friday, we're holding a non-uniform day to raise funds for the NSPCC, a charity we work closely with to safeguard our children. Any donations will support Mr Howles in his Cardiff Half Marathon run
.
Lastly, we're calling for volunteers to help transform our Infant Garden this Friday (20.9.24) from 2-3 pm. Whether it's weeding, planting, clearing, or painting, your help would be invaluable in creating a beautiful, accessible space for our younger pupils.
Best Wishes,
Mr Griffiths
