I am delighted to share with you the latest news and updates from Llangan Primary School. We have had a fantastic start to the new half term, with plenty of exciting developments taking place.

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude for your patience and understanding during the ongoing renovation work in our school. Over the half-term break, the contractors (SMK) made tremendous progress in preparing the old building for renovation. As part of this process, all elements containing asbestos have been safely removed, ensuring that our school is now completely asbestos-free. The old heating system is also being renovated, and the focus this week has been on renovating the dinner hall. We anticipate that the dinner hall will be completed by the start of next week, but in the meantime, please note that school dinners will consist of baguettes only. We will keep you updated on the progress of the renovations and plan to have an official unveiling once the work is complete, inviting the community to witness the incredible impact of these improvements.

Next week, we have some exciting events lined up. On Tuesday, we will be welcoming Y Bontfaen Primary School's Football team from Cowbridge for a football match on our field. The match will commence at 3:15 pm, so please be aware that the carpark may be busier than usual during this time. Additionally, representatives from Cardiff University Computing Programme will be visiting our school to lead Techno Camps in our older classes. These camps will focus on teaching the children how to use microbit computers, providing them with valuable skills for the future.

Furthermore, we will be celebrating St David's Day on Friday, 1st March at 9:30 am. The event will take place in the school and will showcase songs and performances from each class, celebrating the Welsh Language, our culture, and history. We warmly invite family members to join us for this celebration, and tickets are available for purchase on Parent Pay. Alongside the performances, the children will also participate in a range of competitions as part of the Eisteddfod. Some of these competitions will be held in school, including a Welsh Language poetry competition and an art competition. Additionally, the children have the opportunity to enter competitions at home, such as creating a model of a Welsh Landmark, recording themselves reciting a Welsh poem or legend, and participating in Welsh baking. The deadline for these competition entries is Wednesday, 28th February at 9 am. All entries will be judged, and winners in each year group will receive extra house points. At the end of the Eisteddfod, the house with the most points will be awarded the Eisteddfod Trophy. Moreover, Year 6 pupils are invited to enter a poetry competition, where the winning poet will be 'crowned' during the ceremony.

Lastly, I am thrilled to announce that we will be joined by coaches from Cardiff City Football Club for the next six weeks. They will be running additional football lessons for students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 as part of their outreach program for schools. Furthermore, the coaches will be running an after-school training club for pupils in Years 3-6 every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 pm. Please note that there are only 20 spaces available for the after-school club, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We have already sent out emails to parents inviting them to sign up for this club.
